The CLYMACT (Creating Local Youth and Municipalities’ Alliances for Climate Action) project is an EU-funded initiative focused on empowering youth and municipalities to collaboratively address urban climate challenges. It is bringing together municipalities from Hungary, Italy, Spain, Greece, and Croatia for knowledge exchange and best-practice sharing. On a local level in Hungary, this project is being implemented by the Zugló Municipality (Budapest, District 14), the GiLE Foundation, and the United Nations Youth Delegate Programme of Hungary.

The project targets sustainable mobility, energy poverty, food security, urban waste management, and climate resilience.

The entire project is running for two years. However, the participation of Clymact Ambassadors is ~18 months. Overall, the project includes youth selection, capacity-building workshops, international exchanges, community engagement campaigns, and policy recommendation development.

By empowering young leaders to work with municipalities, the project fosters community-driven solutions, raises awareness, and supports long-term urban sustainability.

Through capacity-building, policy recommendations, and knowledge exchange, the project aims to scale and replicate successful initiatives across different urban contexts.

The application process includes:

  • Filling out an application form (including contact details and a short 2-minute video answering key questions).
  • Attending a mandatory workshop in April to be considered for selection.

No prior experience is needed. If you are 18-30 years old, passionate about climate action, and committed to co-developing solutions, you are welcome to apply!

Yes, every nationality is welcome. However, international applicants must hold a valid residence permit in Hungary and reside in Hungary for the duration of the project.

The project is fully funded by the European Union, and no fees are required from participants (this includes no application fee).

Participants will attend workshops covering the six sustainability topics and will be briefed by the managing team before every international trip.

  • One full-day workshop in April.
  • Additional pre- and post-trip online briefings for selected participants.

Yes! Participants will:

  • Be highlighted on social media throughout the project.
  • Receive an official certificate at the end of the program.

Each trip is typically 3-4 days long..

Yes, all travel and accommodation costs are fully covered by the project.

No relocation is required, and selected participants don’t have to travel for every trip. Each selected participant will be invited to join 2–3 international exchanges during the entire project. We will do our best to match you with your preferred countries and topics of interest, based on the focus area of each trip.

  • Out of the 10-12 participants selected, 5-6 will travel per exchange.
  • Each participant will attend 2-3 fully funded trips out of the six planned exchanges

No, the project is fully conducted in English. No additional language skills are required.

People aged 18-30 can participate by going through the application process. The application link can be found on the website.

No, there is no need for previous experience required to join. If you are between the ages of 18-30 and have a passion for climate action and a commitment to co-develop local solutions and influence decision-making. 

The application process includes an application form, where you will have to provide contact information and upload a short video (2 minutes) answering the required questions. Later in the application process, you will have to join a mandatory workshop to be considered a candidate for being a CLYMACT Ambassador.

The participants will have to commit to one full-day workshop in April, and 4-6 hours every month if they are traveling for content creation and briefings.

This track provides aspiring diplomats and those interested in international public servants with in-depth knowledge and practical skills essential for a successful career in international relations. Participants will engage in workshops on diplomatic protocol, cultural diplomacy, and science diplomacy, alongside visits to embassies and relevant international organisations. These activities offer hands-on experience and insights into diplomatic practices and international development, helping participants develop the necessary skills and network to excel within international organisations.

Aspiring diplomats – International relations enthusiasts interested in careers in diplomacy, international development, and global cooperation.

International public servants – Students and young professionals interested in pursuing a career at an international organisation like the United Nations, UNESCO, UNHCR, or UNICEF, for example, without necessarily wanting to be a diplomat (i.e.  remaining independent of any single nation’s government). Interests may include advancing global peace, international development, and human rights.

This track equips aspiring public servants and NGO leaders with the skills and knowledge necessary for impactful community work. Participants will attend workshops on introduction to nonprofit management and civic engagement, effective altruism, social innovation, design thinking, community engagement, and fundraising. Additionally, visits to local NGOs and municipalities will provide practical insights into the functioning and challenges of civic organizations. This track aims to foster effective leadership and innovative thinking in addressing social issues.

(Aspiring) public servants – Students and young professionals who work, or aspire to work, in government departments or local municipalities in their country, and who seek to enhance their skills, network, effectiveness in public administration and ability to improve their communities.

(Aspiring) non-profit founders – Passionate individuals interested in creating and leading non-profit organisations focused on addressing social and environmental issues.
