Major Milestones:
Our ambitious initiative was launched at the 20th World Science Forum, which was held on the 19th of November 2019 in Budapest (Hungary). We hosted our own programme session at this prestigious event, titled: "Responsible Education: A Call for Action." We remain grateful to the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and, in particular, the South African Embassy in Hungary, for the invitation to make this possible.
Covid-19 impacted the entire world in 2020, and our foundation also had to postpone our planned activities and initiatives. However, we rose to the occasion, by hosting several impactful online webinars, workshops, and training sessions for students, to support them during those challenging times.
The GiLE Journal of Skills Development (GJSD) was established in 2020, with the GiLE Foundation as its publisher. It is an open-access, double-blind peer-reviewed international scientific journal on soft skills development for the Digital Age (eISSN 2732-3781).
We successfully launched the (online) GiLE4Youth Scientific Conference in 2021 to promote research and the ongoing dialogue relating to employability, human skills, and lifelong learning.
The GiLE Academy was established in 2021 as part of a summer programme. It is a direct response to the global skills crisis, and it is an intervention to support students and recent graduates to help address their personal skills gap.
In Sept 2021, the GiLE Foundation's Changemakers Project receives the honour of being under the patronage of the Hungarian National Commission for UNESCO.
The Changemakers Youth Forum was officially launched as a youth engagement project. As facilitators, the GiLE Foundation collaborates with an expansive network of 10+ youth organisations in Hungary.
The leadership of the GiLE Foundation took a series of strategic decisions to re-organise the core pillars and focus areas of our public benefit organisation. This included finding a new publishing home for the GiLE Journal of Skills Development (GJSD), and discontinuation of the GiLE4Youth Scientific Conference.
The GiLE Foundation entered into a partnership with the Hungarian Innovation Hub. The agreement provides our NGO with access to their venue at Info Park, and our collaboration focuses on youth engagement, promoting innovation and entrepreneurship, and bringing life to the premises through impactful events and community building.
The GiLE Foundation launched a series of pilot mentorship programmes. They initial focused on early career researchers and aspiring diplomats. They successfully laid the groundwork for programmes that are more comprehensive and impactful.
In accordance with the updated strategic direction of the GiLE Foundation, we launched a series of fun and educational events that promote innovation and critical thinking among young adults, outside of the regular classroom. These include our Ideathon Challenge and Climathon Budapest events.
